Swimming WA Gold Colour Pennant Wrap Up

Last Friday evening 12th February, Kwinana Swimming Club played host to the 3rd and final leg of this seasons SunSmart 2009/2010 Gold Colour Pennant.

The Colour Pennant Series is an interclub competition between 3-4 clubs. Each of the club takes a turn in hosting the swim meet and selects a team for 2 lanes per event. The meet generally lasts for about 2 hours. This is quite often a lot of swimmers very first interclub competition. It provides great atmosphere and friendly rivalry between the clubs. It also promotes parents in fulfilling official positions around pool deck that they might not necessarily be use to doing.

An added bonus this season was encouraging all of the clubs to utilise Team Manager to pick their teams, and to use Meet Manager to run the swim meet. Many clubs were introduced to dual meet setups and lane assignments. In the past this had always been done manually.

All of the events were then checkstarted to verify the swimmers competing, and as a result of also having the correct officials at these swim meets all competitors times were recognised on the Swimming WA Meet results page and times were updated to the competitors personal bests. These were then able to be used for meet entry times for WA competitions.

The first leg was held at the Melville Aquatic Centre which was hosted by Melville on 13th December, the order of team placings were Melville (613pts), Stirling (511pts) followed by Kwinana (360pts).

The second leg was next held at Mirrabooka SHS on 20th January and was hosted by Stirling (Tuart Hill and Mirrabooka), again Melville were the victors with (595pts), followed by Stirling (555pts) and then Kwinana (321pts).

The final leg was held at the Kwinana Recquatic Centre and was hosted by Kwinana. With some very fast swimming, the victors once again on the evening were Melville with (561pts), only 12 points ahead of Stirling (549pts) and then Kwinana (374pts).

The overall points which culmulated in points from all three legs saw the winners of the Gold Pennant go to Melville with 1,769pts, in second place Stirling (1,61pts) and in third place Kwinana (1,055pts).

Swimming WA Vice President was on hand to award the Gold Colour Pennant to Melville club captains James Logan and Kiera Batista.

A big thanks goes to each of the clubs commitment to the colour pennant, swimmers and parents for their contribution and Swimming WA officials such as Ian Arblaster, Robyn Arblaster, Martin Lankester, Jackie Wren, Paulene Duguid and Steve Jones for officiating at these swim meets.

The final 2 colour pennants are being held on Fri 26 February.

Applecross at Melville Pool is hosting the 4th and final Blue Pennant, with West Coast, Breakers and Kalamunda competing.

Aqua Attack at Inglewood Pool is hosting the 3rd and final Red Pennant, with Riverside and Lesmurdie Legends in attendance.

Progressive team points can be found on the Swimming WA website under meet results.

We look forward to a bigger competition next season.

Swimming WA Vice President Jeff Williams and Melville Club Captains James Logan and Kiera Batista.
