Swimming WA 2010 Club Premierships – Wrap Up
Challenge Stadium hosted Swimming WA's annual 2010 Club Premierships from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th February 2010. 33 clubs took part in this fun and friendly competitive event, demonstrating their team spirit as they battled it out in the pool to win their club's division shield and pennant.

Congratulations to Arena Swimming Club who took out the 2010 ‘A' Division Club Premierships with a total point score of 399.

Arena's Club President Mike Meinema said that it was a key goal for Arena to win the Club Premierships since its inception in 2000. Arena has also taken the title off West Coast Swimming Club who held the Club Premiership title in the ‘A' division for a consecutive 9 years.

"The value of the Club Premiership competition to the swimmers is clearly demonstrated through the enthusiasm shown by each team as they march onto pool deck, the effort they put into costumes, the thought that goes into choosing the motivational music and the sore throats and husky voices the next morning. There are no individual medals or ribbons, it doesn't matter where you finish in your individual race, just being chosen to represent your Club is winning" said Mr Meinema.

Southside Wesley came in second place with a total point score of 381.50 followed by City of Perth Swimming Club with 365 points.

The excitement around the pool was thrilling as all the clubs rallied in support of their swimmers. It is great to see such team camaraderie in the pool and on pool deck.

"The atmosphere and noise generated by the swimmers and spectators is mid-blowing. It is a level of excitement we rarely get to experience at other swim meets' Mr Meinema said.

Division ‘B' Club Premiership title went to Applecross Swimming Club with a total of 481 points followed by Breakers Swimming Club with 416 points and Southlake Dolphins in third place with a total of 388 points.

Victoria Park Swimming Club with a point score of 383 points won the ‘C' Division of the Club Premierships, Melville Swimming Club was in second place with a total of 309.50 points followed by Peel Aquatic in third place with a point score of 280.

Victoria Park Club President Terrence Richards said "It is fantastic to see the club dominate in its division. The win is a testimony to the hard work of the swimmers and coaches Roger and Tamara Bruce".

First time Club Premiership competitors Fremantle Port Swimming Club took out the honours in the newly created ‘D' Division with a total point score of 355.

"This is the first step for Fremantle as we work to rebuild the club's competitive capability following the retirement of some wonderful swimmers including Olympian Lara Carroll. We are again a small club but with a big heart and we showed that at the pennant. We still have a lot of work to do but it was a great start" said Fremantle Port Club President Simon Redmond.

All Saints Swimming Club came in second place tallying a total 276 points, closely followed by Mandurah Swimming club with 275 points.

The atmosphere was electric on pool deck as each of the teams cheered on their swimmers.

"We were not surprised to see the fantastic team spirit and talent of our opposition. Dancing on the blocks, team colours and the very audible cheering when a club's representative won or placed, combined to create a terrific atmosphere. Congratulations to all clubs on what was a very exciting competition" Mr Redmond said.

Aquajets Swimming Club took home the Premiership title in ‘E' Division claiming a total of 392 points. Vice President Peter Kennedy said that Aqujets really enjoyed the Club Premierships and it was a great team building event for both competitors and their parents.

"The temporary stands that are currently at the edge of the pool provided an opportunity for teams to sit together with their coaches and being poolside, built a better team atmosphere for the competitors.  We could visibly see competitors from all three clubs really having a good time and supporting their team mates. For three small clubs competing against each other, the noise factor matched a state championship final" said Mr Kennedy.

Second place was closely followed by Guildford Blues with a total 370 points and third place was Moora with 300 points.

This annual event is one of the most exciting and important events of the year for clubs to showcase their team spirit and colours. Having five divisions A, B, C, D, E permitted all clubs to have a chance at claiming a Club Premiership title, shield and pennant. It was great to have two strong country teams from the Great Southern and Central Midlands take part in the event.

With the success of this year's Club Premierships, next year is set to be bigger and better and we look forward to seeing you all again on pool deck for another exciting meet.

Thank you to all the swimmers, clubs, parents, volunteers, officials and competition planning committee for their hard work and support at this event. We hope that all the husky voices have now recovered.
