2010 Country Championships Wrap-Up
Western Australia's extensive country swimming community came together on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January 2010 to compete in Swimming WA's annual Country Championships held at Challenge Stadium.

31 clubs including 359 swimming athletes travelled from as far as Albany, Broome, Tom Price, Kellerberrin and Carnarvon, just to name a few, to compete for the title of 2010 Swimming WA Country Champion.

The two day event included a comprehensive meet program covering multiple events for all ages which included more than 1760 entries, with over 63% of swimmers improving on their entry times.

The Country Championships is regarded by country swimmers as a fundamental pathway to one day compete on a national level. The championships proved to showcase some of WA's up and coming regional swimmers with 6 country records broken over the weekend.

Brothers Brodie (14 years) and Jake Hedges (9 years) from Peel Aquatic both broke 2 records. Brodie broke a 30 year old record in the 50m Butterfly that previously belonged to triple Olympian Thomas Stachewicz when he was a junior country swimmer in Karratha. Jake broke the records in the 100m backstroke previously held by Toby Bennett-Smith back in November 2004.

Lyndon Goldsmith (14 years) from Bunbury Swimming Club also broke two records in the 800m Freestyle previously held by Jacson Robb back in October 2004.

Congratulations to all the Swimmers that made the journey to Perth to compete in the Swimming WA 2010 Country Championships. We hope you achieved your goals and set new personal bests.

Swimming WA would like to thank the Competition Planning Committee, Officials, Swimmers, Clubs, Volunteers and Parents for their contribution and support of this event.
